The president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva voted in São Bernardo do Campo this Sunday morning and, without mentioning the name of any candidate, defended that people have quality information to make a decision about who to vote for and guarantee democracy.
“As long as democracy exists, the people’s right to choose will exist. For better or for worse, it is the people who will choose. If he has good information, he will always choose for the good. What we cannot allow is for people to vote uninformed, for us to vote without us knowing who we are voting for”, he stated.
The president also criticized fake news and candidates “who have no commitment to anyone other than provoking, other than telling lies”, in a possible allusion to the candidate for mayor of São Paulo Pablo Marçal (PRTB), who was notable for his aggressiveness against opponents and the dissemination of fake news.
Lula, who campaigned for Guilherme Boulos (PSOL) for mayor of São Paulodid not use stickers or make direct references to candidates, but defended the PT's experience in governing cities in ABCD Paulista, and was alongside state deputy Luiz Fernando Teixeira, PT candidate in São Bernardo, the president's political birthplace.
Electoral surveys in the city show a technical tie between four candidates, including the PT candidate, without a clear definition of who will be able to go to a possible second round.
