The president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said this Monday (30) that a possible free trade agreement between European Union e Mercosur could be extended to the Latin America.
The statement was made in an opening speech at a business forum between Brazil e Mexicoin Mexico City, where Lula is on an international trip to accompany Claudia Sheinbaum's inauguration as the Mexican Presidency.
In his speech, Lula also expressed hope that the free trade agreement between the European and South American blocs will be signed this year.
“I want to say to fellow Mexican businesspeople, this year, God willing, we will close the Mercosur and European Union agreement. It's ready and Brazil is ready to sign this agreement so that no one will ever say again that it's South America that doesn't want it, that it's Latin America that doesn't want it”, said Lula.
“And this agreement can be extended to a European Union agreement with Latin America. The world needs this, the economy is a little atrophied worldwide and we have a market for it”, he added.
