The executive secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Dario Durigan, stated this Thursday that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva authorized restrictions on payment methods for online betting, which may include the Bolsa Família card.
In an interview with journalists after a meeting at Palácio do Planalto about the so-called “bets”, the Minister of Social Development, Wellington Dias, said that the government will present its own mechanism to avoid the use of the social benefit card for betting payments.

Dias said that the government will not adopt discriminatory actions against Bolsa Família beneficiaries, highlighting that initiatives that reach the public benefiting from the program will also be expanded to the general population.
He argued that half of the country's adult population makes bets of this type, while the share of Bolsa Família beneficiaries playing is 17%.

Authorities stated that the government will wait until next week, when more than 2,000 irregular betting sites are expected to go offline, to discuss with payment method operating companies about possible restrictions.
In the interview, the Minister of Health, Nísia Trindade said that the ministry will reinforce prevention actions and psychosocial care for game addicts.
