Awaited with great anticipation by the market, the Super Wednesday was the big highlight of the last week, bringing with it relevant data both in Brazil and abroad.
Over here, the Monetary Policy Committee (Copom) raised the Selic rate by 0.25 percentage points (pp) at the meeting on Wednesday (18), in a unanimous decision.
Thus, the base rate of fees went from the 10.50% level to 10.75% per year. “The scenario, marked by resilience in activity, pressures in the labor market, a positive output gap, rising inflation projections and unanchored expectations, demands a more contractionary monetary policy,” says the statement.
The Federal Open Market Committee (Fomcin the English acronym), in return, started the cycle of monetary easing in USA (USA) and cut the fees reference by 0.50 percentage points.
The rate, which had been in the range of 5.25% to 5.50% since July 2023, was reduced to 4.75% to 5% per year. This is the first cut in more than four years, a period in which the US central bank imposed restrictive conditions to contain the inflation.
IPCA-15 and PCE: see what to expect for this week
Being the only Brazilian indicator of the day, the market starts another Monday (23) waiting for the usual Focus Report. On Tuesday (24), investors will receive the Copom Minutes, at 8 am, and then the Consumer Confidence Index at 10 am.
As usual, Wednesday (25) is the busiest day of the week. In addition to the release of the Broad National Consumer Price Index 15 (IPCA-15), which measures the preview of the inflation officer of the Brazilthe Central Bank releases Open Market Statistics and External Sector.
On Thursday (26), the market receives data such as: the Producer Price Index (PPI) and CAGED Employment Evolution Index. Finally, on Friday (27), the IGP-M is the highlight and closes the week.
