The first round of the 2024 municipal elections is approaching, and Brazilians must elect the positions of mayor and deputy mayoras well as the councilorswho will work in the legislative houses of the country's municipalities.

This year, municipal elections will be held in 5,569 cities in Brazil, and more than 156 million voters will go to the polls on October 6. Voting will take place from 8 am to 5 pm (Brasília time).

Presentation of the voter registration card is not mandatory so that the voter can vote. Therefore, to vote, it is necessary only an official photo ID.

2024 Municipal Elections: which documents are eligible?

Accepted documents include identity card, driver's license (with photo), reservist certificate, work card, passport and functional identity card issued by a professional body.

It is worth noting that documents can be used even if the validity date has expired.

In addition to these options, it is also possible to vote by presenting the e-Título, an application that works as a digital version of the voter registration card. It allows the person to view the voting document number, justify the vote and consult the information registered with the Electoral Court, among other options.

Birth or marriage certificates are not eligible as proof of identity, so if presented, they will not be accepted and the citizen must present one of the documents listed above.

2024 Municipal Elections: can I vote without biometric registration?

People without biometric registration will be able to vote, only needing to bring an official document with a photo.

However, if there was a call for a voter review, with the aim of collecting biometrics, and the voter did not appear at the registry office, may have the title cancelled. Therefore, it is not possible to vote.

To find out if your voter registration has been cancelled or if you already have your biometrics registered, you must:

  • Access the TSE page;
  • Click on the “Services” tab; and
  • Make the query in “Electoral status”.

If you already have the e-Título application, you can check this information there.

It is important to mention that the polling place can be obtained through the title numberby checking the voting location on the TSE Portal or, even, via e-Título.
