A Engie Brasil (EGIE3) won the largest energy transmission project offered in auction this Friday, committing to invest around 2.9 billion reais in the coming years to build lines and substations in five states in the regions On the e Southeast.

Lot 1 was won by the French company with a proposed discount of 48.14% on the permitted annual revenue (RAP), totaling 252.4 million reais. Other large companies in the electricity sector participated in the dispute for the asset, such as Eletrobras (ELET3) e Copel (CPLE3), in addition to the Warehouse fund of BTG Pactual and consortiums of Alupar (ALUP11) and the Spanish Cymi and Acciona.
The new transmission project in Engie's portfolio aims to reinforce the electrical system in the states of Paraná and of Santa Catarinain addition to meeting Holy Spirit and some regions of Minas Gerais. The deadline for completing the project is 60 months, and it is estimated that 5,800 direct jobs will be created.
Two other smaller lots were also offered in the event, which in total should require around 3.3 billion reais in investments from entrepreneurs.
A Taesa (TAEE11) was the winner of lot 3, with permitted annual revenue (RAP) of 17.76 million reais, which represents a discount of 53.45% compared to the maximum value that had been established. This project foresees the installation of a substation in the State of São Paulo, with 244 million reais in estimated investments.
Lot 4 went to Cox Brasil, which offered an allowed annual revenue (RAP) of 12.6 million reais, a discount of 55.56% compared to the maximum value. The project envisages the construction of a substation in Bahia, with 168.24 million reais in investments.
The competition also included the participation of electric companies CPFL e EDFengineering companies and smaller consortiums.
This was the second energy transmission auction held by the federal government this year, amid efforts to expand and reinforce the national electricity grid due to the rapid growth of generation in the country and the growth in energy consumption.
In the first bidding of 2024, held in March, 15 transmission lots were offered, with 18.2 billion reais in investments, in a dispute that had Eletrobras and BTG Pactual as the main winners.
For the next few years, the Ministry of Mines and Energy foresees at least three more energy transmission auctions. According to the calendar released the day before by the ministry, in 2025 there will be a single event, in October. In 2026, the competitions should take place in the months of April and October.
