After a Super Wednesday busy, in which the Banco Central Brazilian raised the Selic by 0.25 percentage points (pp) and the Federal Reserve cut the rate by 0.50 pp, a new interest rate decision takes the spotlight.
Today (19), at 8:00 am (Brasília time), the United Kingdom announces the decision for the future of its monetary policy. The expectation is that the Bank of England (BoE) choose to leave rates unchanged at 5% per year, after having implemented the start of the cutting cycle in August.
O BTG Pactual assesses that the possible option for caution is compatible with the current economic scenario, which has been a positive surprise, even amid the environment of restrictive rates — a fact that has
removed greater risks of recession and enabled the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) to buy time.
The UK still releases the open letter on inflation do BoE, as MPC meeting minutesand the quarterly bulletin from the BoE — all at 8:30 am.
In addition, the day's agenda includes the release of initial jobless claims and existing home sales in the United States. In Japan, at the end of the day, the August CPI and the BoJ monetary policy statement will be released.
In Brazil, the indicators agenda is empty. On the political side, the president Lula has three meetings on the day: with the Special Secretary for Legal Affairs of the Civil House, Marcos Rogerio de Souza; with the Minister of Indigenous Peoples, Sonia Guajajara, and the President of the National Foundation of Indigenous Peoples (Funai), Joenia Wapichana; and with the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva.
