The Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade) approved without restrictions the agreement for the Zamp (ZAMP3) develop the operation of stores for the North American sandwich chain Subway in Brazil, according to an order published in the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU) this Friday (27).

Zamp, a Brazilian operator of international fast food chains such as Popeye’s e Burger Kingreported this month on the signing of the contract to represent the North American brand in the country, but the agreement was still subject to approval by the regulatory body.

Cade's decision becomes final and definitive within 15 days, as long as there is no statement by the Cade Court or appeals by interested third parties during this period.

Previously, the Subway brand was developed in Brazil by Southrock, until the group's difficulties in judicial recovery caused Subway International to take over the business through an affiliate in the country.

Recently, Zamp also closed an agreement to purchase assets and rights that integrate the operations of the Starbucks coffee chain in the country, another brand that previously belonged to the SouthRock portfolio.

Zamp is indirectly controlled by Abu Dhabi's sovereign wealth fund, Mubadala.
